After being completely redesigned two years ago, the 5-Series returns for 2006 offering a new six-cylinder engine. The 5-Series will initially be offered with only the six-cylinder engines. The V8 models will arrive in September of 05. BMWs new N52 3.0L in-line six-cylinder engines are constructed of magnesium/aluminum composite materials. The engine on the 525i generates 215 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque, while the engine on the 530i employs a three-stage induction system that produces 255 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard equipment on all models and may be upgraded to a six-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. The 525 and the 530 models are now available with BMWs xDrive all-wheel-drive system.
